Gun Classes & CHL Class San Antonio

These gun classes are designed by intent to form progressive building blocks from one to the next to strengthen your skills in a logical progression. You might find that your existing gun skills do not require you to take the First Step Pistol Orientation course. You can certainly by pass the Pistol Orientation course and take the Basic Pistol course. However, there are prerequisites for gun classes that need to be addressed if you want to take the Protection in the Home or the Protection outside the Home course. These two courses are not designed to teach you how to shoot.

SA Firearms Instruction & Training: Gun Glasses

SA Firearms Instruction & Training is offering the following gun classes. Descriptions of the contents of the classes are given below.

First steps pistol orientation is $105.00. A $50 down payment is required at registration and the balance is due on the day of the class. This is a 3 hour course and is designed for the person that really does not know much in regards to a handgun. You might have just purchased your first handgun or one was given to you. You also might be considering purchasing a handgun and you are unsure, this is the course for you. If you do not have a handgun I will provide one for you at no cost to you, that’s right zero cost. NRA FIRST Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. This is a great confidence builder for the new shooter, you will not be disappointed.

Basic pistol orientation course is $130.00. A $50 down payment is required for registration and the balance is due on the day of the class. This is a 8 hour course and will require 50 rounds of factory ammunition. If you do not have a handgun at this time, you can rent an appropriate handgun for $30.00 plus the cost of the ammunition which can be purchased from SA Firearms Instruction & Training or you can purchase the appropriate caliber ammunition from a retail source. This gun class designed for the individual that lacks consistency in their placement of the bullet on target and needs more familiarity with their handgun. You know the person either has a good day or a bad day at the range. This course goes in to great detail on the fundamentals and principals of good consistence bullet placement. We will cover safety, sight picture arch of movement, grip, proper stance, trigger control, breathing and trigger reset and follow through. We will be shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions. This course will turn every range day into a safe and great day. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet; take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

Protection inside the home is $165.00. A $50 down payment is required in registration and the balance is due on the day of the class. Designed around providing self-defense around and in the home for their selves and loved ones. This is not a how to shoot a gun class. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. This course is for experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.

Protection outside the home is $165.00. A $50 down payment is required in registration and the balance is due on the day of the class. If you are the individual male or female that carries a concealed handgun this is the class for you. It is not enough to be armed; you must be proficient in using your handgun safely and have the skill set necessary to manipulate it in time of need. This is a shooting intensive course that requires shooting from concealment. This course covers holsters of all types including purse holsters types and choices in handguns, responsibilities of concealed carry. We will also discuss and practice proper drawing and re-holstering, point and hip shooting, weak hand shooting, shooting from cover, procedures on clearing malfunctions and magazine reloads and more. This course teaches you the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense. This gun class contains the essential skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life threatening situation. The NRA Basics of Personal Protection outside the Home is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute and possess defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection in the Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course Certificate, or by passing the pre-course evaluation.

CHL Class San Antonio

The Concealed Handgun License (CHL) class normally takes 4-6 hours for completion. Range qualification could be additional time beyond class room time. The course fee is $70.00. You will need 50 rounds minimum for the course of fire (no reloads please). Applicant is responsible for their range fee of $11.00. Your handgun must be in .32 caliber or larger, revolver or semi-automatic. It must be in good serviceable condition. This CHL class will include discussing the use of force, dispute resolution, and Texas Laws regarding use of force as a defense. There will be a 25 question test at the end of the CHL class. This is not including your range proficiency test. Please see the Course of Fire for detailed information of the range portion. This is not a course that teaches shooting. If you are a new shooter or an infrequent shooter please see other training classes that are offered prior to taking the CHL. The First Step Pistol Orientation is designed for the new shooter. The Basic Pistol Orientation goes into great detail in how to shoot effectively and safely. It takes more than ownership of a gun to be proficient. Shooting qualification for your CHL should not be your first experience shooting. 100 rounds of factory fresh (sold at retail stores) ammunition is required. The CHL class requires eye protection, hearing protection, closed toe shoes, hat with a bill, and a shirt or blouse with a high top to keep the brass from going down your shirt front. Dress suitable for the days weather, bring a water container for the range in the summer it will be HOT. A towel to wipe the sweat off would be handy.

One On One Gun Classes. Results are Guaranteed in this gun course. If you are not shooting better than you were before this gun class I will refund $25.00 of the class cost back to you. This gun class was developed for the instructor to give his undivided attention to the student on the range in a private class session. This class is 2 hours long and it is all spent on the firing line. Breaks for the students are controlled by the student. Topics taught but not limited too will be: proper stance, grip, sight picture, trigger control, controlling recoil, trigger reset, breath control, reloading, loading, ammunition and handgun choices, and cleaning and field stripping your firearm. This is a live fire shooting class and all range safety rules apply. All shooters will have a hat with a bill, proper eye wear/protection, closed toe shoes, blouses and shirts that cover the neckline. (Hot brass in your shirt front is painful.) Student is responsible for paying his or her way on the firing line. This one one one gun class will require 100 rounds of the proper ammunition for your firearm.

AR-15 BASIC Operators Course. This class is designed for first time shooters/owners that own the AR15 Platform. This class will be $85.00, range fees and targets are included in this 2 hour course.  Ammunition requirements are 100 rounds of 55 grain hardball. This class will be given on the range and will require you to make a reservation date via text or email before you pay. I will confirm the dates you request with the range before the you pay for the course. Once I confirm the dates availability you will be notified to pay the full course fee $85.00. This is a PRIVATE RANGE. There will be no one using this range other than the students that sign up for this class. We will set your rifles zero with your iron sights or non magnifying optic. You will perform live fire exercises that will instill confidence and enhance your abilities to safely manipulate your firearm. Topics taught will be fundamentals in cleaning, maintenance and operation and you will be taught remedial action. Other topics covered are types of ammunition and their uses, available optics and accessories for your AR platform rifle.
